Midweek Brain Dump
Haven’t been doing much cooking lately because I hatehateHATE our current kitchen. Good thing we move in 17 days!
Speaking of moving, why is it so G-D expensive? My credit card is on fire and we haven’t even moved yet.
Speaking of spending money, I am in desperate need of a hair cut. I can’t actually remember the last time I got it cut. Oops?
Speaking of spending even more...

Recipe 34 of 2013: Linguine with Roasted Broccoli, Pine Nuts and Goat Cheese
I once heard that pine nuts can fuck with your taste buds so I left them out but otherwise this recipe included three of my favorite things: pasta, broccoli and goat cheese. Win.
Recipe 35 of 2013: Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup
In case you haven’t eaten ramen noodles since college, they’re still awesome....

A lesson in buying ink
Step one: Make the super smart decision to wait until rush hour to go to Target. Sit in traffic.
Step two: Find out Target only has one of the two kinds of ink needed.
Step three: Sit in even more traffic to go to Office Depot.
Step four: Realize Office Depot sells dual ink packs and that this whole problem could’ve been avoided.
Step five: Come home only to find out you bought...
So there's that.
Casey: What do you want for Mother's Day?
Me: To not be pregnant.
Midweek Brain Dump
Minus a hiccup with the moving truck (Budget can eat a bag of dicks), we made it to NOLA in one piece. Upon our arrival we promptly bought a car and are currently in the process of renting an apartment. Adulting FTW.
Car #2 is a hand-me-down minivan from my grandparents. It’s about as glamorous as it sounds but it does the trick.
We’ve cooked approximately two meals at home since we’ve gotten...

I don't want to jinx anything BUT...
The two apartments we are considering are LIT-RALLY three times the size of our place in NYC.
…and cost $500 less.

Hello, Weary Traveler
joyengel:
At the airport:
There are approximately 309 signs from the moment you arrive at the airport to the moment you are asked for you ID informing you that you are, indeed, going to need to hand over your ID in the near future.
Liquids have not been allowed on planes for almost 10 years. There is no excuse for this to be new information to you. Ditto on the concept of removing your shoes.

I tried to write a weekend recap but apparently...
Instead I’ll do what I do best: talk about food.
Recipe 31 of 2013: arugula, goat cheese & prosciutto pizza
Inspired by Shea. Swapped prosciutto for figs because a) I couldn’t find fresh figs to save my life and b) I do what I want. I regret nothing as prosciutto is always a good choice.
Recipe 32 of 2013: Pea-Arugula Risotto
Risotto is a real pain in the ass but like Jenna...

Recipe 29 of 2013: Balsamic-Glazed Salmon
A nice change up from our usual salmon recipes but didn’t exactly knock my socks off or anything.
Recipe 30 of 2013: Slow Cooker Jerk Chicken
The orange and cinnamon flavors totally took over the dish. I give it a C but perhaps with some adjustments it’d be better.

Hump Day Happies
Spring has sprung! Loving this warm, sunshiney weather.
Last week’s trip to Florida was so great that the next one is already booked (51 days!)
Excited to see Lili & Casey this weekend (and finally meet Laura!)
Speaking of Tumblr-turned-IRL friends, hopefully meeting Becka & Kelly next week
NOLA bound in t-minus 18 days!

April goals
Continue working on the NYC bucket list.
Get outside every day. It’s springtime so no more excuses.
Make the most out of my last month of having a gym membership. (AKA steal as many free razors as possible)
Menu plan. Related: stop eating like shit.
Pack everything you own & move it across the country. This one should be NBD.

Food things
No menu planning this week since we’re headed to Florida on Wednesday - WAHOO!
I have, however, made some good stuff lately that I’ll tell you about since I know you’re all on the edge of your seats awaiting my review. Har.
Recipe 26 of 2013: Jen’s salmon
Admittedly, I’ve been eating like garbage for the past few weeks. This was a very welcome change of pace.

Recipe 25 of 2013: Baja Fish Tacos
Tastes like summer, especially when served alongside a Blue Moon Agave Nectar (or two).

- Found out I didn’t get a job I was pretty sure was in the bag +/- Ate & drank my feelings as a result (in case you were wondering, my feelings taste like a supermug of beer & a burger) + Fancy date night at the Met that involved a private box - Weird modern adaptation of Faust + Just booked tickets to NOLA for an interview next week + IT’S FRIDAY!

Recipe 23 of 2013: Shrimp Pad Thai
The flavors were good but unfortunately the noodles never cooked all the way, even after half an hour. Would definitely make this again.
Recipe 24 of 2013: Corned Beef Tacos
Decided the original recipe sounded weird so instead I topped plain corned beef with Jalapeño Slaw and called it a day. Weird but delicious.

Recipe 22 of 2013: Bobby’s Lighter Tastes Like Lasagna Soup
The only “lighter” aspect of this I stuck to was the turkey sausage. I don’t do wheat pasta or reduced-fat cheese because, well, no. Also used ditalini because lasagna noodles are a pain in the ass.
Fair warning: by the next morning this was decidedly not soup so you may want to store the pasta separately. Or...
